Living Our Indigenous Languages: Bringing Together Community, Local and Academic Resources

Sty-Wet-Tan, First Nations Longhouse, University of British Columbia

This exciting event brought together over 250 language advocates, community members, policy makers, educators, practitioners, scholars, and students who are interested in reclaiming and revitalizing Indigenous languages, many of which are endangered. Participants were able to hear firsthand from language speakers’ and learners’ personal and professional experiences, participate and engage in language learning opportunities, learn about resources available for language revitalization, and to celebrate International Mother Language Day.

Guest Speakers
  • Dr. Lorna Williams (Lil’wat), Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Knowledge and Learning, University of Victoria
  • Dr. Janice Billy (Secwepemc), Chief Atahm School Immersion Teacher
